Sonia DELAUNAY

Sonia Delaunay is a Russian artist who has spent most of her life in Paris, France. In her youth, she was primarily involved in design, where she ran her own fashion design studio. However, under the influence of her husband Robert Delaunay, she devoted herself entirely to painting. Today we can find her paintings in most important museums of modern art.

The artist is a pioneer in modernist art and one of the founders (together with Franciszek Kupka and her husband) of the Orphism movement, which combined abstraction, strong colours and a spiritual base. Her style is above all distinguished by her exploration of form and colour, noting that she was a pioneer in the colour-abstract experience. It was thanks to her and her art that second-generation (post-Second World War) abstraction was so willingly embraced.
